ABOUT
THE MICHAEL IVANKOVICH
ANTIQUES & AUCTION CO., INC.
Michael
Ivankovich has been collecting Wallace Nutting pictures
and Early 20th Hand-Colored Photography and Prints for nearly
30 years. Buying his first picture in 1974, he started searching
out pictures & prints in garage sales, flea markets,
antique shows, and local auctions. Shortly thereafter, he
began purchasing entire collections...20... 50...100 ...800
pictures at a time. Today he is generally considered to
be the country's leading authority on Wallace Nutting pictures,
books, furniture, and memorabilia.
This
specialization in Wallace Nutting pictures led to his first
book in 1984, The Price Guide to Wallace Nutting Pictures
(1st Ed). Three additional editions of that book were released
between 1986-91. He has also authored three other books
relating to Wallace Nutting including: The Alphabetical
& Numerical Index to Wallace Nutting Pictures, The Guide
to Wallace Nutting Furniture, and The Guide to Wallace Nutting-Like
Photographers of the Early 20th Century. Through his Diamond
Press subsidiary, he has also published 3 additional books
on Wallace Nutting: The Wallace Nutting Expansible Catalog,
Wallace Nutting: The Great American Idea, and Wallace Nutting
Windsors: Correct Windsor Furniture.
In
1997 his Collectors Guide to Wallace Nutting Pictures: Identification
& Value was published by Collector Books and is generally
considered to be the #1 book for Wallace Nutting collectors.
In
1998 he published The Collectors Value Guide to Popular
Early 20th c. Prints which is actually 8 individual Prices
Guides, with separate value chapters on Wallace Nutting,
David Davidson, Fred Thompson, Sawyer Pictures, Maxfield
Parrish, Bessie Pease Gutmann, R. Atkinson Fox, and a separate
catch-all chapter on all of the lesser-known hand-colored
photographers.
And
in 2002 he partnered with Carol Gray and Doug Peters in
the release of The Hand-Painted Photographs of Charles Henry
Sawyer.
Mr.
Ivankovich conducted the first all-Wallace Nutting Consignment
Auction in 1988, selling nearly 500 lots of Wallace Nutting
pictures, books, furniture, and memorabilia in Framingham,
MA. The enthusiasm generated by this Auction has led to
52 more Catalog Auctions between 1988-2002, with 4-6 Wallace
Nutting, Nutting-Like, and Early 20th c. Print Auctions
taking place each year throughout the New England and Mid-Atlantic
states.
These
Auctions have now become the national center of Early 20th
c. Hand-Colored Photography & Print activity. They provide
buyers with the opportunity to compete for a wide variety
of pictures and prints ranging from common scenes to the
best and rarest pictures in the country. These Live Catalog
Auctions provide sellers and dealers with the opportunity
to place their consignments in front of the country's leading
and most knowledgeable collectors, while at the same time
providing Auction attendees with the opportunity to see
one of the largest and most diverse assortment of Early
20th c. Hand-Colored Photography and Prints that they will
see assembled all in one place...several times per year.
A
frequent lecturer, Mr. Ivankovich has written articles for
most major trade papers, has appeared on various radio and
television programs, and is frequently consulted by antique
columnists from throughout the country. His Exploring Early
20th c. Prints column now appears in 14 trade papers and
